Colleton County Magistrate Court

The Colleton County Magistrate Court, also known as the Summary Court, holds criminal jurisdiction over offenses punishable by fines up to $500, imprisonment of no more than 30 days, or both, with some exceptions where penalties may be higher.

Magistrates oversee bond hearings, set bail, conduct preliminary hearings, preside over criminal and traffic court cases, including wildlife, fishing, and hunting violations, and authorize arrest and search warrants.

Additionally, the Colleton County Magistrate Court exercises civil jurisdiction for cases involving amounts up to $7,500.

Civil matters may include summons and complaints, landlord/tenant disputes leading to evictions, sales of abandoned or confiscated property, claim and delivery actions, and the issuance of restraining orders.
